Dear Children,

I know full well Spring is approaching and Daylight Savings time will soon follow - Thank you Sweet Baby Jesus! - I know we are all ready to abandon the house and come out of hibernation. However, I am preparing to jump on all-of-every-single-child with both feet here. Admittedly I had to pause and think over my approach. Thankfully my house is not a democracy, though I promise it will be easier if we all agree to go along and get along.

It is easy to slack in the winter because honestly, going into hibernation means no one is doing yardwork of any kind. I went outside yesterday, in my flip flops, and got overwhelmed. I already knew folks were slacking on chores but the end has come.

Here's a hint...If you only slack to a point Moms may let you slide. Cross the line and I will bring the hammer down. It's kinda like a real life lesson. Don't believe me? Ask any grown up with a job - K?

We are going to do a refresh on house rules too for the 21 year old who somehow got fooled into believing the universe owes her something and the 10 year old who is now only interested in friends. You know them but perhaps we need a refresher course. (I'll quietly tell the 7 year old not to gloat too much that she is the only one not "in trouble" and possessing full ownership of a clean room.) Oh! And let me introduce you to the Parent's Bill of Rights:

  1. I have the right to a full night's sleep without worrying about where my child is or being awakened between 12:30 and 3am and having to tell you AGAIN that if you woke the dogs you let them out.
  2. I have the right to live in a clean and orderly home I can be proud of
  3. I have the right to get help with housework
  4. I have the right to be spoken to politely

If you really don't like it and truly do object and can't live like this get a full-time job and go see how the real world feels about it...In the meantime, let's just agree to get along.

Love, Moms

I am sure my Mum gave me a similar list... but be warned, I'm 33 now and when she comes to visit I give her my own set of rules! ;)
