Healthy Smoking?

Several women at work tried to quit smoking with Chantix  when it 1st came out. There was a 25% success rate - and I can confidently state that number since 1 of the 4 of us quit. One had terrible nightmares, one was nauseous and I just got super-climb-out-of-my-skin anxious. Didn't work for most of us and since then I have seen hit-or-mostly-miss results with other friends and family. Did you ever try it? Did it work?

Well, one of the four women mentioned about is trying to hop back on the happy non-smoker bandwagon using the ecigarette. She had it today and gave us a little demonstration touting the cost as the same amount she would pay for 2 cartons. She said she gets "her fix" but it's a bit bigger and heavier than a real one and she couldn't "figure out how to hold it." We shall see how this one works out..

The basic premise is that you get your nicotine from water vapor, so you eliminate the tobacco, tar, pesticides and whatever, while still getting your fix. They sell non-nicotine ones too though...and you can explore flavors. Like blueberry. I'm not so sure I want to smoke a blueberry cigarette.

I fail to see how this will help one quit smoking. Perhaps you taper off your nicotine and then eliminate the behavior but I'm not sure that is the aim at all. I mean really?

Part of the push is that you can now smoke anywhere because it's just water vapor...Won't this encourage folks who might have braved the cold to say "oh well" and figuratively light up in their homes? Then they "smoke" more and the comapny sells more product?

And if you taper down to the non-nicotine version and have been saying for year you just like the experience won't you tell yourself this is not bay for you and keep you buying?

And then you move on to the flavored variety and it's like trying a new flavor of gum?

I just don't know about all this but am not willing to proclaim myslef a fan...What do you think???

  1. I am the proud owner of an e-cigarette system. It took me some time to get used to it, and I go back and forth between that and real cigarettes, but I quite like it. You get the smoke feel in your lungs from the water vapor, you blow smoke out, etc. You are right, they are a bit heavier than real cigarettes, but as you say, you are getting none of the byproducts - just straight nicotine. It curbs your craving for a real cigarette quite nicely. One cartridge equals to approximately a pack and a half of cigarettes. My problem is as you say, I will sit at my computer and suck on those things like there is no tomorrow. lol

  3. I'll quit when they can put me in a coma for a month. Or two.

Nothing seems to work. Not even the outragious price.
