There is Joy in Hard Work

Whew...I hit the yard hard this weekend. The kids are off with their Dad so the house is clean and quiet. I try to work and play harder when they are not home and today was dedicated to the yard.
I added in a couple of Russian Sage plants and kept teaching J about the plants in the beds. I saw the coolest bug ever too! I have no idea what the hell it was but it was bright yellow and white with some black and - No Shit! - it's pattern looked like a random snippit of a Pennsylvania Dutch Pattern. (If anyone knows please tell me.) You know, you have to keep your eyes peeled for the details and the beauty in life or it will all pass you by.
God love J...She does not have passion for yard work but I did rope her into helping me. We worked together pulling grass, hooking up the new hose...and I spread the mulch. That doesn't sound like hours of work as I type it but I spread more than 40 bags! Looks pretty damn good if I do say so myself. I still have work to do to get the beds the way I want them but give me a year or 2 to work on it and let my plants mature and I promise amazement. By the way, can anyone tell me how to propagate/root Crepe Myrtle? I have one and want more, but have no desire to ever pay $45 for one stinkin plant.
As the clouds rolled in J went to shower and I sat on the front porch lovin Miss Lola, my tuxedo kitty, savoring the breeze and admiring the work. I actually heard the rain before it hit my house. It's so cool to hear it come and swoop in around you. As the rain fell I watched streams of dirt roll down my feet...then went to get clean.
We played cards on the deck, enjoying the cool breezes. C came home and joined us and the dogs as we all admired the sky. This was truly a blessed day.

  1. I think I know what bug you are talking about!! Of course, you know I have a picture...haha. I called Nicole out to see it and told her it looked like art work. She said she saw one at her house.
    I'll have to post it
