Almost More Fun than I could Stand,

but not quite. We had a rockin, rollin weekend full of fun. Just to give you a glimpse before I crash into my wonderful bed take a peek...
  • Hung out with friends chatting around the kitchen table
  • Went out to Waffle House for breakfast (kids 1st time ever)
  • Played Wii
  • Hung in the hot tub
  • Went out for ice cream
  • Stumbled across a winery
  • Visited the Drive-In for Alice and Wonderland and the Blind Side...both aaaaawesome ass movies and worth every penny (again a 1st time for the kids)
  • An extensive lesson on horses and lots of time riding with Squirty (another 1st)

The winery is near the Drive-In and wandering out that way early afforded us the opportunity to follow the signs. The owner is a very nice man from South Africa who traveled around the world, working as he went. His family owned a winery he helped work growing up. While traveling he met a sweet American girl whose parents just happened to own a winery here and that's where he landed. Now he brews South African wines here in VA and was pleased to say they have the largest annual festival there on the east coast each year to celebrate his home country. We didn't bother with the tour but had a nice time visiting as our children played. They had an old-school metal merry-go-round out front and at his 4 yr old's pleading I spun them until they went "as fast as a tree."

I am one tired mama but I had so much fun. I hadn't been to a Drive-In in years and $20 for 4 people to see 2 movies totally seemed worth the 45 minute drive and the admission price. I was a fan of the cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland and loved the written verses as well. I loved this one too though I think they did miss a few opportunities with it. The Blind Side grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. Very touching story. Nicely done.

The horses, without doubt, were the highlight of the weekend. I haven't been on a horse in years (think childhood here) and my children had not had any such opportunity beyond hokey pony rides or photo ops at daycare. They LOVED it. C got hers up to a trot. KJ did too with help but was riding at a walk on his own. And Z was pleased to sit on the big horse and be guided around the ring. D and I got to ride too...I may not be a witness but am pretty sure we wore Squirty out. It was a very generous offer and very much appreciated by my crew. She is a gracious hostess with a kind heart. I hope we'll go again, perhaps child-free, and get to do a bit more.

Good friends, good wine and great family...This must be why so many of us live for weekends.

I was exhausted from my whole weekend, not just sunday afternoon. I wouldn't have it any other way though.
